4             Main Objectives

·                    Organise Rural women and men of weaker sections for Integrated Sustainable Development by promoting Viable Self Help Groups.
·                    To promote people's participation in Sustainable Natural Resource Management.
·                    Initiate Income-Generating Activities through Self-Help Groups (SHG's).
·                    To bring in Overall Human Development covering Educational, Social, Economic, Environmental and political spheres of life. While staying away from election / party politics.
·                    To promote small scale Industries for Economic empowerment of the Rural Poor by creating marketing facility for Organic produces.
·                    To provide need based financial support through Micro finance.
·                    To provide Awareness and Need based Skills through Trainings, Demonstrations, Workshop, Exhibitions, Seminars  and other medias on Sustainable Agriculture and Organic Farming.
·                    To promote Organic farming and Certification process.

5.     Infrastructure available with the organization
          I. A)  Office Premises:

1. Head Office :  RCC Building with 1600 Sqft.  at District Headquarters Bijapur has the training cum meeting hall and separate sections for administration and Accounts

4.    Participated in Impact Assessment Study of Small holder’s live stock Development Project at Bangladesh sponsored by IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development) Rome.
5.    Participated in International training programme Rural Development Management for 30 days at Shilong, Philippines
6.    Jimmy Memorial training Centre has been utilized by many organizations, Govt departments, Banks etc for conducing various trainings and wporkshops. 640 candidates have been trained during the year on various topics. POWER is continuously offering various trainings to Govt. NGO’s, Bank officials on Self-Help Groups. Concept of Watershed Development, Participatory Rural Appraisal, Joint Forest Planning and Management Community organization etc. Also conducted trainings on building of people institutions.
7.    POWER successfully completed its task at World Bank assisted Sujala Watershed project at Haveri district. Our team has made the achievement in terms of its performance 81 SHGs are self sustained with various income generation activities, POWER promoted one federation of SHGs for their sustainable management.

Institute for Perm culture of Brazil has supported to have Video Conference with BRAZILLIAN Farmers and North Karnataka farmers to exchange the knowledge about Agriculture practices adopted in the region.

11.           Experience in Association with the Government.

The organisation has the experience and expertise in the following areas of Rural Development.

11.1       Watershed and related Activities :

A.      NABARD Watershed Projects       NABARD Bangalore has sponsored 4 Watershed ( Around 1000 Ha. Each) projects at Indi block of Bijapur and Athani block of Belgaum dist, The village level Watershed committees formed  to carryout Watershed development activities. People are contributing 25% towards land treatment cost.

B.      SUJALA Watershed Development Project.

The Team of the POWER has provided the services for Kanakapur sub watershed under SUJALA Watershed at  Haveri in collaboration with District Distict watershed. Activities are  organizing community  and prepared them to execute watershed programme. Successfully completed during Sept,2008.

C.      NWDPRA( National Watershed Development Project for Rain fed Areas) :  POWER is providing Capacity building services to the project beneficiaries in partnership with the department. Organisng of CBOs  conducting trainings, Mobilising community contributions are the key roles.

D.      Sustainable Agriculture Programme:   POWER collaborated with Youth fro Action, Hydrabad for execution of Sustainable Agriculture projects for 3 years, The result of the project has attracted our team very much towards Sustainable Agriculture. With this motto we have collaborated with Agriculture Man Ecology Foundation, Banglore . 8 members of our team has undergone the training on MTOF (Master Training on Organic Farming). 20 villages covered under the project.

E.       Rastriya Krushi Vikas Yojane ( RKVY): POWER has been recognized as a Resource Organisation as  Bijapur Dist lead NGO to carryout capacity building, Support and Monitoring of NGOs identified to provide services to RSKs.


11. 2 Cluster Facilitation Team Services under the Jala Samvardhana Project

POWER has Provided Cluster Facilitation Services for the Karnataka Community Based Tank Management Project at Hanagal Taluka of Haveri District. We were with responsible rehabilitation of Thirty EightTanks in Five Panchayats for a period of four years. Successfully completed in March 2009.

11.3     Capacity Building of Tank Water User Communities.

POWER was involved in Promotion and Capacity building of Water User Committees at Shahapur and Shorapur talukas of Gulbarga districts under the Govt. of India Scheme National project for Repair, Renovation, and Restoration of Water Bodies directly linked to Agriculture. Successfully completed in March 2007.

11.4     Community Based Health  and Nutrition Management:

POWER has been working on promotion of  Health and  Nutritional aspects of Child and mother under CHIRAYU Programme along with Ashwini Foundation of Bijapur, preferring on Pre-natal, neo-natal and Post natal  health in order to decrease Infant Mortality,  Post Deliver Deaths and also to protect mothers from death,

Under RCH Programme POWER has plan to work with Primary Health Centers for Reproductive and Child Health Care. POWER primly prefers health issues under community development programmes by various activities like, Health Camps, Awareness Camps and Check up camps etc   

11.5   Promotion of community participation in Natural Resource Management.

POWER has been working on promotion of People’s participation in Haveri, Bagalkot and Bijapur District. Trainings for the Village Forest Committees (VFC’s) in Bijapur and Bagalkot Districts respectively under the Government Sponsored Joint Forest Planning and Management (JFPM). POWER has  provided the Resource persons for the trainings and PRA’s since last five years. The Programmes intended to cover the SC and ST populations dependent on the Forest Resources.

11.6     Promotion of Micro Credit  :
The organization has promoted 403 SHGs and around 600 SHGs adopted which are promoted by other institutions, for the rural poor and credit linked 462+ SHGs them with the banks and Departments under various Government schemes. The beneficiaries include mostly the vulnerable sections of the Society, mainly SC and ST and also the low income groups.
Apart from this POWER has been providing Resorce persons for the trainings organized for the members of the self help groups (SHGs), formed under the SGSY schemes of the zilla panchayat of Bijapur District.

Micro finance  

POWER has identified micro finance to its SHGs there NABIFINS under BC model, nearly 200 SHGs linked to the time of 400 lakhs. Till now Rs. 27, 70,000/- was lend to 43 SHGs at B. Bagewadi taluk of Bijapur district. All the members have started micro enterprise activities with this credit support.

11.7      Income Generation Activities
POWER has conducted Tailoring Training programme for 240 women in 12 Watersheds at Bijapur and Gulbarga districts, which was sponsored by DANIDA, Karnataka Watershed Development Department during  2003 -04.

Conducted Mobile phone repair training program for 25 youths at Bijapur Which was sponsored by Karnataka Backward community and Minority Development Corporation, Bangalore.
NABARD has supported for lending micro finance under the scheme of UPNRM at B. Bagewadi block. Goat raring is the major activity for them. POWER provided the loan of Rs 71.83 lakhs to the SHGs.   
Zari craft and patch work training has been organized for 100 women at B. Bagewadi and Bijapur for a period of one year from Aug- 2004, Sponsored by Women Development Corporation, New Delhi.
Conducting MEDP program regularly for the SHGs with the support of NABARD. 

The Chief Functionary of the Organisation is regular invitee as resource person to    conduct Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme (REDP) & for    Achievement motivation Sessions for General EDP to RUDSETI Bijapur. District Industries Center, SIDBI and Women and Child Welfare Department    invites POWER team as Resource persons for conducting Trainings on EDP.

13.               Institutional Activities

                Jai Gurudev Collage of Social Work College and Masters of Social Work- Bijapur.
         
 POWER has started in 2006 a Bachelor of Social Work College and in 2011 a Master of Social work Collages Affiliated to Rani Channamma University, Belgaum with the intention of Promoting the Social Work Profession in the North Karnataka for the Social Development. These Graduate and  under Graduate Course split into four & Six Semesters respectively. These Courses are  based on Practical Field Work and Field Exposure to the trainee Social Workers. It is the First Social Work Educational Institute in Bijapur District 
Rani Chennamma University Belgum, has give affiliation for MSW collage from 2011-2012. The 2 years (4 semester) PG course is develop professional social workers.
      
             Jimmi Memorial Training Center, Muttagi.

      Establishment of Jimmy Memorial training Centre is new venture in the history of POWER. 50 candidates can be trained with hostel facility. However accommodation is possible for 25 persons. POWER is continuously various trainings to Govt. NGO’s, Bank officials on Self-Help Groups. Concept of Watershed  Development,  Participatory  Rural Appraisal, Joint Forest Planning and Management Community organization etc. Also conducted trainings on building of people institutions.

13.3 Jai Gurudev Orphans  School: POWER is running a Residential School for Orphans at Muttgi village of B.Bagewadi taluka of Bijapur Dist  Since 3Years.


13.4 POWER Reach Programme: POWER has successfully completed    Shikshanavahini Project Supported by SVYM- REACH India to main stream the school dropouts in Basavan Bagewadi Block of Bijapur district. The Project has mainstreamed 1000 plus children and worked with SDMC. Gram Panchayats and Teacher  Communities.

13.5   Balawadi Centers: POWER is running 15 Pre-school Centers for excellence Quality Education right from Pre-school with the due support of Akshara Foundation

13.6   Residential School for School Dropouts:
          POWER has a vision to have residential school for Quality Education in Rural area, it is planning have Jai Gurudev  Residential Primary School at Muttagi.



14.               Evaluations and Consultancies :

POWER has conducted Evaluation of National Afforest ration and Eco Development Board sponsored Forestry programmes for 2006-07 and 2007-08 in Bijapur district. The programme was executed by Karnataka Forest Department through 17 VFCs.

Survey of milk production was conducted in Hungund block of Bagalkot district which is supported by KMF Bijapur.

Mr. Siddu Pujari Chief of the organization has participated in JFPM evaluation at Nagarahole National park, Western Ghat Forest development projects.

He also conducted Evaluation of Small holders livestock development project at Bangladesh sponsored by  International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), Rome.
